Treasury Resumes Plans for $20 Bill Change

President Andrew Jackson to be replaced.

The White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, said this week that the Treasury Department will resume plans to put Harriet Tubman’s image on the $20 bill and that President Biden wants to accelerate the process.

In a briefing to reporters, the press secretary said U.S. money should “reflect the history and diversity of our country and Harriet Tubman’s image gracing the new $20 note would certainly reflect that. We are exploring ways to speed up that effort.”

Andrew Jackson, the seventeenth president of the United States, is currently on the $20 bill. Ms. Tubman, a former slave who helped hundreds of others to freedom along the Underground Railroad to the North during the Civil War, would become the first woman and first minority to appear on U.S. currency. She later served as a spy for the Union Army.

Former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced in 2019 that $20 bills with portraits other than Jackson would not circulate until 2028.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Treasury officials as they accelerate plans to change the $20 bill image.
  • For the individuals in the Bureau of Engraving who will create the new design for the currency.
